City Manager Daniel Fitzpatrick is pleased to announce that the City of Rochester has hired its first chief information officer, who will oversee the city’s technological resources and help take innovative approaches to better serve the community.
Sonja Gonzalez started in her role as the city’s first CIO on Aug. 1 and, along with the city’s information technology staff, will work to provide strategic planning and leadership for all of Rochester’s technology-based initiatives and programs.
Among her top priorities will be to take a collaborative approach in working with the school department to identify opportunities for sharing resources and making improvements that will best serve the community.
As its first CIO, Gonzalez will focus on identifying ways to upgrade the city’s technological resources in order to best serve residents.
“Having a deep understanding of technological resources has become a critical element of the work that we do on behalf of residents each and every day,” City Manager Fitzpatrick said. “Adding someone with this type of expertise to our team is an essential step toward positioning the city to work as efficiently and effectively as possible.”
Prior to joining the City of Rochester, Gonzalez worked for multiple New Hampshire public school systems, overseeing enhancement of their technological programs and their integration into the classroom. Gonzalez most recently served as the IT Manager for the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund.
“Rochester is such a vibrant city and I am thrilled to be joining the team here,” Gonzalez said. “I am looking forward to hitting the ground running and working with everyone to streamline our technological programs and enhance the services we provide to the community.”
Gonzalez and her team will also direct their attention toward the creation of a tech-based environment that is equipped to handle sustained growth in the years to come.
