Kayla and Melissa Peach made their lifelong dream of owning a candy shop a reality when their store, Sweet Peach’s Candy and Confections, opened its doors on North Main Street last April.
The mother and daughter pair decided that the time was right to open up the shop following the birth of Kayla’s son, Brayden, and they have spent the last year offering Rochester residents a variety of nostalgic candies and chocolates.
“The store is definitely something that her and I had wanted to do since she was a little girl,” Melissa Peach said, “because I was brought up going to candy stores as a child so I did the same with my children.”
Sweet Peach’s prides itself on its wide variety of old and new age candy, which it sells at affordable prices. The store features more than 30 jars of candy under 25 cents, as well as fudge, chocolate, 17 flavors of gummy bears and handmade treats like caramel apples, chocolate covered strawberries, dipped Oreos and rice crispy treats.
As they embark on their second year, the Peachs hope to offer more penny candy and a larger variety of homemade treats. For Easter, they resolved to make their own chocolate bunnies rather than buy them elsewhere.
Sweet Peach’s also takes steps to give back to the community, whether through Facebook giveaways or by donating portions of its sales to people in need, as it did with 10 percent of its sales of bouquets ahead of Valentine’s Day earlier this year.
The shop is located at 16 N. Main St., and is open Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
